The
Balinese health and beauty traditions have been in existence for
hundreds and hundreds of years - long before Spas become fashionable.
Balinese massages and treatments use native spices, herbs, flowers,
sea salts and volcanic earth to heal, calm, soothe, relax and refresh
the mind, hearth and soul.
Today, the Balinese carry on this tradition, unperturbed by modern
science and cosmetics, using the ancient recipes passed from generation
to generation. Balinese massages and treatments use native spices,
herbs, flowers, sea salts and volcanic earth to heal, calm, soothe,
relax and refresh the mind, heart and soul. We at Bali Inter-Continental
Resort have tapped on this rich culture and tradition to do the
same for you.
Our methods and techniques are rooted in local heritage and we
use a locally produced range of products. These are products developed
by medical and holistic practitioners and contain natural and indigenous
ingredients. The full range is also on sale at the Warung, Uluwatu
Villa Retreats and at Uluwatu Gym & Health Club. We invite you
to our Uluwatu Villa Retreats to experience the spirit of the Balinese
themselves... how they have lived in the past and how they live
today.

They say no visit to Bali is complete without a traditional Balinese
massage. The Uluwatu Gym and Health Club specialises in massages,
a common practice to most Balinese. Practiced in village and urban
homes, massages are used in all stages of life - from birth to death
to comfort and heal. As a baby is massaged daily after bath to help
muscle and bone formation, keep skin supple and induce sleep, the
adult frequently has massages to help blood circulation and relieve
muscle tension. The strong tradition in giving and receiving massages
on the island has given the Balinese a natural tactile instinct
which is highly sensitive to the human body. Even without the working
knowledge of anatomy or sciences, they have an amazing ability to
detect tissue soreness and manipulate muscles in what can only be
described as an innate ability passed down through the years.
The Uluwatu Gym and Health Club is the ideal place for a good workout,
relaxation or indulgence. It is located on the first floor of wing
5 and opens daily from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm.
Massages
The Uluwatu Gym and Health Club offers five different massages which
last between 25 and 90 minutes. The first appointment is at 9.00
am and the last at 9.00 pm. You can choose to have your massage
indoors or at our Club Pool Pavilion. All our massages are designed
to reduce stress, help improve circulation, relieve soreness and
muscle tension and help you relax. You may select from our Essens
range of oils - Island Flowers, Island Spice or Island Fruits.
The Traditional
Using old-style Balinese techniques, this is a firm and deep massage
which includes thumb walking, palm pressure, skin rolling and percussion,
as well as foot point massage. Massage strokes are initially downwards
to "strip" the nerves and open circulation and the sequence
finishes with upward strokes towards the heart.
